The Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Surgery and Gastroenterology departments have services of national and international reputation. They provide general and specialist services to patients with acute and chronic conditions, both benign and malignant. The Upper GI Unit is the regional centre for oesophago-gastric cancer and specialises in oesophageal and gastric resections. As a high volume centre we perform over 100 major resections per year in addition to gastric GIST surgery. Operative approaches (right chest, left chest, transhiatal, three-stage) are tailored to patients needs using a range of laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, robotic and open techniques. We offer a pioneering one stop staging package for oesophago-gastric cancer so that patients can have a number of investigations in one visit and leave the hospital with a clear treatment plan.About us
