Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow post to start in
February 2026 . All posts are for an initial 6 month contract, with potential to extend to 12 months following review.
The post can be placed in the following areas: Vascular, Regional, Perioperative, Airway, Trauma, Neurology, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Cardiac. Please see attached documents for details on each specialised area. The department is also ESRA Approved Training Centre.

Main duties of the jobAirway
- This Fellowship will help fellows to gain experience and confidence in dealing with patients with difficult airways and different advanced airway techniques.
Preoperative
- To deliver high quality
preoperative
assessment, investigation and management of ASA 1-4 patients for elective and emergency surgery. To deliver high quality individualised anaesthetic care to ASA 1-3 [E] patients, focusing on optimising patient experience and outcome.
Trauma
- St George''s offers excellent exposure to major trauma both within the emergency department and theatre environment. There is opportunity to undertake the trauma team leader course which is run in-house and then do sessions in the ED doing supervised trauma team leading.
Cardiac
- Fellows will have exposure to a wide variety of cardiac surgical, thoracic, large airways and cardiology procedures.
Regional
- As one of London''s leading teaching hospitals, we are able to offer our patients a wide range of Regional Blocks. St George''s Department of Anaesthesia is very proactive in promoting and teaching regional anaesthesia and interventional pain medicine procedures under ultrasound guidance. There are also opportunities to visit SWLEOC (South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre).

- This post is designed for an anaesthetist with the final FRCA or equivalent, an interest in developing obstetrics as an ongoing career aim and provides opportunity to work at a senior level in a busy high-risk obstetric unit.

Job responsibilitiesThe post aims to provide dedicated training time in anaesthesia across a variety of Anaesthetic sub-specialities.
The post is a 1:8 full shift rota and the successful candidate(s) will be allocated to the appropriate on call rota based on skills and experience. Depending on the fellowship applied for, the successful candidate(s) could be expected to provide anaesthetic cover in locations such as general, trauma, paediatric, neuro and cardiac theatres, as well as trauma and cardiac arrest calls, cath lab, neuro radiology and obstetrics.
Please note that due to service provision and gaps we often require our Fellows to cover the Obstetrics on call bleep.
There are opportunities to complete fellowships in a variety of Anaesthetic sub-specialities at St Georges.

The fellow will also carry out anaesthetic duties at a level appropriate to clinical experience and competence which will also determine the degree of supervision. It is the aim of the department for this post to help prepare the anaesthetist for taking on the responsibility of becoming a consultant within a safe environment in which advice and support are readily available.
The successful applicant will require commitment and enthusiasm, leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post holders will be expected to observe the trusts agreed policies and procedures drawn up with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust.

Person SpecificationQualifications and Training
Medical Degree
Full registration with GMC
Final FRCA or equivalent
Having attended a simulation ''Train the Trainers'' programme
Evidence of participation in a medical education-related study programme
ATLS or equivalent
Experience
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that gained while training for UK CCT in anaesthesia
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for assessment of patients preoperatively and manage most common emergencies.
Confident in managing cardiac arrest situations.
Participation in clinical audit or research in anaesthesia
Skills
Ability to communicate effectively as the team leader in an emergency situation
Have the practical skills to be able to perform and teach most procedures in anaesthesia.
Knowledge
Ability to work in a team
Good interpersonal skills
Caring attitude to patients
Commitment to continuing medical education
Evidence of sustained commitment to medical education
