Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Department, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, with tertiary services for South London and associated counties.Main duties of the job

The postholder will, under the supervision of the relevant consultants, provide orthopaedic services to the Guy''s and St Thomas'' Hospital Trust. Responsibilities include:Develop skills in assessment and management of orthopaedic patients in acute and elective children''s services.Enhance practical skills in children''s orthopaedic surgery.Gain understanding of 3-dimensional gait analysis and its contributions to clinical decision making, prognosis and research.Undertake theatre lists and outpatient clinics with or without supervision.Appreciate contributions of other disciplines in multidisciplinary paediatric orthopaedic care; sensitive to patient and family needs.About us

You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 2 Specialist Registrars and 3 specialist orthopaedic nurses. You will provide elective orthopaedic and trauma services in conjunction with colleagues, participate in clinical and service activities to ensure high standards of patient care, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and help manage clinical service and service development. The Department is keen to support development of your clinical interests with a flexible approach.This post is non-on-call, but you will liaise with the trauma team and coordinate cover for internal and regional referrals during the week (08:00-17:00). Some staff may be asked to work flexible shifts to meet patient needs, including evenings or weekends.The fellowship is a 7-month appointment.Start date for this post is 5 January 2026. This is the tertiary Children''s Orthopaedic Service for South London and associated counties. It attracts Royal College and PMETB training approval for fellowships such as this.The current consultant staff in the Evelina Hospital''s Children''s Orthopaedic Surgery Unit includes:Arash Afsharpad – Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lead for Paediatric TraumaMartin Gough – Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lead for Neurodisability and Gait LabMichail Kokkinakis – Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lead for Adolescent Hip Preservation SurgeryDaniel Reed – Head of Service, Lead for Paediatric and Adolescent Knee SurgeryGavin Spence – Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lead for Limb ReconstructionThe successful candidate will report to Mr Michail Kokkinakis, who will act as educational supervisor and medical appraiser during the fellowship.Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Full GMC Registration and licence to practiseFRCS(Tr and Orth) or equivalentEligibility to work in the UKNodal point 5 criteria: complete 7 years of postgraduate clinical experience (ST6 minimum) or equivalent if overseas, or Post CCTClinical Experience

Extensive clinical experience in orthopaedic surgeryPrevious experience in paediatric orthopaedic surgeryDocumentation of paediatric orthopaedic operative experiencePrevious fellowship in paediatric orthopaedic surgeryKnowledge and Skills

Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary teamStrong communication with children and parentsWillingness to learn from instruction and self-directed studySound judgement and decision-makingAttendance at specialised paediatric orthopaedic courses and national/international meetingsMembership of Paediatric Orthopaedic SocietiesResearch

Understanding of clinical research and audit principlesEvidence of original research/academic activity and audit completionTeaching and Management
