About the Role
A Toolmaker is required by a leading manufacturer in Dudley, offering a full-time, days-based role with an early Friday finish and a salary of £40,000 per annum. Reporting to the Toolroom Manager, you will provide planned maintenance on progression tooling and support the development of new equipment. The position demands strong experience within the press industry, specifically with Progression Tooling and exposure to EDM. Key duties include adhering to all health and safety procedures and working from engineering drawings to modify existing tooling. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working and adaptable Engineer with a strong technical background within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Operating in a fast-paced environment, you will report to the Toolroom Manager and provide effective planned maintenance on progression tooling, amongst other responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Toolmaker role will be:
Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and company policies.
Support the development of new tooling and modifications to existing tooling, working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Fit, trial, debug, and modify tooling, carrying out press try-outs as required.
Monitor tooling performance within production areas, identifying repair requirements and improvement opportunities.
Strip, inspect, repair, maintain, and rebuild production tooling.
Work closely with production setters to ensure tooling issues are resolved efficiently and tooling is returned to service promptly.
Attend machine breakdowns, diagnose root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Operate a range of hand tools and workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines, presses, and grinders.
Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, gauges, and Vernier calipers to verify tooling dimensions.
Carry out routine maintenance on power press tooling ranging from 20 to 300 tonnes, including progression and secondary operation tools.
Manufacture and maintain jigs and gauges.
Prepare reports and maintenance documentation as required.
Contribute to continuous improvement and productivity enhancement projects.
The key requirements of the Toolmaker will be:
Apprentice trained with a relevant engineering qualification or hands-on Toolroom experience
Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Experience in Progression Tooling and some exposure to EDM.
Ability to read and understand technical engineering drawings.
Experience operating potentially hazardous machinery
