Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be working with an ambitious and rapidly expanding planning and development consultancy to appoint a Senior Planner to join its growing team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to progress their career within a forward-thinking and people-focused consultancy. The successful candidate will work across a varied portfolio of projects throughout the UK, providing high-quality planning advice and supporting clients through complex planning matters.
As a Senior Planner, you will take ownership of a range of planning projects, build strong client relationships and work closely with Local Planning Authorities, consultants and senior colleagues to deliver successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied portfolio of planning and development projects from inception through to completion.
- Providing strategic, commercially focused planning advice to clients across a range of sectors.
- Developing planning strategies for complex development proposals and identifying practical solutions to planning challenges.
- Preparing and overseeing planning appraisals, statements, reports and planning applications.
- Managing planning applications proactively, including negotiations with Local Planning Authorities and planning officers.
- Coordinating clients, external consultants and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure effective project delivery.
- Identifying planning risks and opportunities while ensuring projects are delivered to agreed timescales and budgets.
- Supporting business development, client relationship management and the mentoring of junior members of the team.
About You
- A relevant degree in Town Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning or a related discipline, with a Master''s qualification desirable.
- Significant experience within the planning sector, ideally gained within a planning consultancy or similar professional environment.
- MRTPI status or working towards Chartered Membership of the RTPI.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, planning legislation and national and local planning policy.
- Proven experience managing planning projects and applications, with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills, with confidence engaging with clients and key stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness, project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues desirable.
