We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Quality Inspector to join a precision manufacturing/engineering environment.

This is a hands-on quality position for someone with strong dimensional inspection skills who is confident working with CMM equipment, verniers, micrometres, callipers and other precision measuring instruments.

Alongside inspection, we are looking for someone who understands the wider quality process. You will be expected to interpret engineering drawings and quality documentation, support PPAP and APQP activities, investigate non-conformances, identify root causes and help implement effective corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out dimensional and visual inspection of manufactured components against engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Set up and operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) equipment to inspect components accurately.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including verniers, micrometres, digital/analogue callipers, height gauges, bore gauges and other inspection equipment.
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, tolerances and GD&T/GPS requirements.
  • Support the preparation and completion of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and submissions.
  • Understand and contribute to APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) activities for new and existing products.
  • Identify and manage non-conforming products, ensuring issues are appropriately contained and documented.
  • Investigate internal and customer quality issues to establish the true root cause of defects or process failures.
  • Use structured problem-solving techniques such as 5 Why, Ishikawa/Fishbone, 8D or similar root-cause analysis methods.
  • Raise and support NCRs, corrective action reports and other quality documentation.
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing and quality concerns.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support internal, customer and external quality audits where required.
  • Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is correctly maintained, calibrated and suitable for use.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong practical experience operating a CMM.
  • Excellent knowledge of dimensional inspection and precision measurement.
  • Competence using verniers, micrometres, callipers and other manual measuring equipment.
  • Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Working knowledge of PPAP and APQP.
  • Experience investigating non-conformances and customer/internal quality concerns.
  • Practical experience of root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Understanding of structured problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 5 Why and Fishbone analysis.
