Professional
Assess care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care without supervision.Coordinate discharge arrangements in line with Trust Policy.Ensure nursing practice complies with Trust Nursing policies and procedures.Communicate effectively with all health care staff; collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and families.Consolidate and extend clinical skills and provide leadership and development support to the nursing team.Address issues of clinical competence with the Ward Matron; contribute to handling informal or formal complaints.Prioritise work to ensure the ward/department is managed effectively; provide specialist knowledge within the ward/department.Participate in and lead quality initiatives to promote evidence-based nursing care.Practice Development
Participate in monitoring and evaluating nursing practice; develop action plans based on audits.Assist the Ward Matron with implementing the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Corporate Objectives; monitor impact and audits.Develop and evaluate training and developmental needs; facilitate clinical competencies and supervision; act as mentor and preceptor; ensure mandatory training is completed.Managerial Role
Manage the ward/department in the Ward Matron’s absence; delegate duties and liaise with senior managers.Provide clinical and managerial leadership; lead a team of nurses and healthcare assistants; conduct IPDRs and performance management.Recruit and retain team members in collaboration with the Ward Matron.Education and Recruitment Support
Assist in recruitment, rostering, induction of bank/agency staff, and ensuring equipment supply.Support induction and development programmes for new staff.Infection Control and Professional Standards
Adhere to infection control policies; promote equal opportunities and maintain patient confidentiality.Promote professional and ethical conduct and uphold Trust policies.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: RGN, current NMC registration (first or second level).Evidence of continuing education and professional development.Desirable: Degree in Nursing or equivalent; management qualification.Skills
Leadership and communication (written and verbal).Effective MDT working; teaching and assessing experience.Experience
