A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.We are seeking an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Emergency Department nurse who is passionate about improving care and service delivery within the department, meeting the needs of all our patients whilst also meeting the national standards for emergency care.The Children''s Emergency Department is a purpose-built environment for children and young people aged 0-15 years, with approximately 31,000 attendances annually across our Children’s Emergency and urgent care pathways. It includes a dedicated 2-bed resuscitation area and is part of the major trauma network. The department is co-located with the Paediatric Assessment Unit, which provides short-stay care for children for 24 hours, and there is an on-site urgent treatment centre.We are a friendly, dedicated team of Paediatric Nurses and Paediatric Consultants. The department is committed to continuous improvement and benefits from a Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner service, supported by senior sister/charge nurse clinical band 7s.Opportunities for support and development are extensive within our service. Our Paediatric Practice Education team is dedicated to enhancing your competencies in paediatrics.The post holder will have experience with shift management, be able to provide high standards of care to critically unwell children, and promote clinical excellence within our team. Responsibilities include supporting paediatric patient flow management out of CED.The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership, empowering team members to deliver evidence-based care aligned with national standards and local policies.On a shift-by-shift basis, they will coordinate staffing across the Children’s Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit and collaborate with all nursing and medical teams in the department and paediatric inpatient areas.Previous experience in a busy, fast-paced ED environment, excellent communication skills, and adaptability are essential.The post holder may take on link role responsibilities based on personal interest, such as trauma, bereavement, risk assessment and audit, or student mentoring and support.With a new hospital planned for Watford and updates underway at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.
