An established and growing construction business is looking to recruit a Junior Estimator to join its team in Kent.
The company delivers a range of design & build, refurbishment, fit-out, planned maintenance and reactive maintenance projects across the public, private and commercial sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior Estimator at the early stages of their estimating career who is driven, hardworking and keen to develop within the construction industry.
Previous estimating experience would be beneficial but is not essential, making the Junior Estimator position suitable for someone with a good understanding of construction who wants to develop their commercial and estimating experience.
The Role
As Junior Estimator, you will support the estimating team throughout the tendering process, including:
- Setting up estimating files upon receipt of new enquiries and maintaining relevant documentation.
- Carrying out take-offs for residential and commercial construction projects.
- Assisting with the preparation of estimates and tender submissions.
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
- Obtaining and chasing supplier, subcontractor and manufacturer quotations.
- Maintaining enquiry and quotation registers.
- Supporting the estimating team with pricing and general tender preparation.
- Maintaining accurate electronic and paper records.
- Assisting with internal estimating procedures and training documentation.
- Providing general administrative support to the estimating and accounts teams when required.
The Junior Estimator will gain exposure to different stages of the tendering process while working alongside experienced members of the construction team.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful Junior Estimator will ideally have:
- A good understanding of building and construction.
- Some estimating or construction industry experience, although this is not essential.
- A background within a main contractor or PQS environment would be advantageous.
- Experience carrying out take-offs and/or pricing residential construction projects would be beneficial.
- Experience with residential new-build projects would be advantageous.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Experience with estimating or take-off software would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability with excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisation and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to build good working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and colleagues.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the ability to work effectively within a small team.
- Relevant estimating or construction qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
