Overview

Required to fill this 10 PA, replacement post within the Paediatric Neurology Department at the Leeds General Infirmary with specialist interest in paediatric neuromuscular disease. A key role of the appointee will be to work within the specialist neuromuscular service. The Leeds Paediatric neuromuscular service is recognised as a MDUK Centre of Clinical and Research Excellence and as a DMD Hub site, provides a wide portfolio of research activity.The neuromuscular team comprises physiotherapists, occupational therapy, neuromuscular specialist nursing, including a dedicated transition nurse and family care advisors, alongside the existing consultants. There are regular neurophysiology clinics, supported by a consultant neurophysiologist.INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD: Monday 27 October 2025 (AM)Job responsibilities

This is a 10PA substantive appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist with specialist interest in paediatric neuromuscular disease. A key role of the appointee will be to work within the specialist neuromuscular service. The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary. The Consultant will join 5 existing paediatric neurology consultants and work alongside a team of neurosurgeons, specialist neurology nurses and AHPs to deliver Paediatric neurology services to the region. The department provides a comprehensive service to a population of 1 million children from West, East and North Yorkshire and NE Lincolnshire, with inpatient services based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital and strong links to other paediatric subspecialties in the Childrens Hospital. Subspecialty clinics include epilepsy, neuro-oncology, neurovascular disease, inflammatory disorders, headaches and inherited white matter disorders, with options for complex motor disorders interventions (botulinum injections, intrathecal baclofen, and selective dorsal rhizotomy). The neuromuscular service provides a wide portfolio of research activity and regular neurophysiology clinics supported by a consultant neurophysiologist.About us

Experience

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric neurology.Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.Desirable

Evidence of 12 months experience working in paediatric neuromuscular.Qualifications

MB BS (or equivalent)MRPCH (or equivalent)Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.Eligibility to work in the UK.Is up to date and fit to practise safely.Desirable

Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialtyTraining, Research, Teaching and Audit

On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT in paediatric neurology (or equivalent training demonstrated).Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.Valid BLS Training.Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.Desirable

Valid APLS and NLS.Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.Research projects relating to paediatric neurology.Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.Management, Interpersonal Skills and Other Requirements

Understanding of current issues in the NHS.Well organised and skilled in good time management.Effective interpersonal skills.Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR; CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.Disclosure and Barring Service Check
