Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology

TheEye Department in Leeds, is looking for a VR locum consultant to work for 6months. The post holder will be working with the three other VR Consultantsworking within the department.The VR service in Leeds is provided at StJamess, Seacroft and Wharfedale hospitals where the clinic/virtual clinics areundertaken.Applicationsare welcomed for this post on a full time basis. The appointee must be able todemonstrate a high level of motivation for the subject of VR and have somerelevant prior clinical and surgical experience.Thepost is available from the beginning of Octoberand will be for 6 months.Candidatesmust be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license topractice at the time of appointment.Main duties of the job

Successfulcandidates will be expected to be involved in:Out-patient clinics including eyecasualtySupervision of patientsContribute to SpecialistMulti-disciplinary team meetingsReferrals to other specialists,departments and hospitals are timely and appropriateTo link with Consultant colleagues inother relevant site specialist teams within the TrustTo contribute to research, teachingand new developments within the Ophthalmology department. The post holder willbe encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical researchprograms on going in the department.The post holder will assist inproviding service alongside the consultant team, this will include clinics,surgery and Acute Referral ClinicAbout us

TheOphthalmology Department lies within the Head and Neck Clinical Service Unit atLeeds teaching Hospital Trust. It is the largest provider of specialistOphthalmology services in the Yorkshire region and provides a specialistophthalmology service for patients in Leeds, Yorkshire and from across thenorth of England. The Eye Department is based at St James University Hospital,Leeds with Ophthalmology Services also held at Seacroft Hospital and WharfedaleHospital. There are 29 consultants in the wider Ophthalmology Department. Todeliver care to patients with Ophthalmic conditions.Supervision of patientsCare of in-patients on a non resident on call rota (1 in 4)Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetingsThispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Vitreo Retinal team Ms Fiona Bishop, MrBataung Mokete and Mr Simon KolbTowork with colleagues in Ophthalmology to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in4). Qualifications

The appointee must hold accreditation in Ophthalmology in the Royal College of Ophthalmology or equivalent and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UKMB BS (or equivalent)Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.Eligibility to work in the UK.Is up to date and fit to practise safelyAll applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following:passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved providerhaving a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification level 4 or 5, Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher in English, gained through study at a UK school that you began when you were under 18having a degree-level academic qualification that was taught in English - if you studied abroad, youll need to apply through Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) for confirmation that your qualification is equivalent to a UK bachelors degree, masters degree or PhDYou do not need to prove your knowledge of English if youve already passed an English Language assessment that is accepted by the relevant regulated professional body.Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.Experience

Should have completed a recognised training programme in OphthalmologyMust be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of Ophthalmic Conditions.Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in Vitreo Retina.Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in Vitreo Retina and provide evidence of expertise in the independent treatment of complex vitreoretinal procedures.Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.Understanding of current issues in the NHS.*Well organised and skilled in good time management.*Effective interpersonal skills.*Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.Attendance at recognised management course.Disclosure and Barring Service Check
