Consultant in Neurology with Interest in Stroke

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Neurologist to join the Neurosciences Department at King''s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a forward thinking and energetic neurologist to be part of the team delivering hyperacute, acute stroke services and neurology on the Denmark Hill (DH) site.The Stroke service at Denmark Hill comprises a 12 bedded Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and a 16 bedded Stroke Unit (SU). We see about 1300 acute stroke patients per year at the DH HASU, and provide a 24/7 thrombolysis and with St George''s Hospital run a 24/7 Thrombectomy centre for South East London and Kent on the Denmark Hill site.We have a well-developed tertiary neurology in-patient service at King''s and are developing acute neurology on the Denmark Hill site. We also have a rotarised system of daily neurovascular clinics.King''s is part of King''s Health Partners, an Academic Health Science Centre and is also one of the four Major Trauma Centres in London. New academic initiatives in Clinical Neuroscience on the Denmark Hill campus also make this an exciting time to join us.Main duties of the job1 in 8 HASU cover undertaking daily ward rounds and reviewing new stroke admissions and supporting the thrombolysis and thrombectomy serviceAcute neurology or daily acute neurology clinic coverStroke follow-up clinicsContribution to clinical governance and service development helping to shape service delivery and quality improvement.The post requires strong clinical leadership, organisational ability, and clear communication skills to work effectively with the wider multi-professional team. Job responsibilities
Together with other colleagues, to provide a high quality care service to patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of theShared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contractProvide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Groups management team where part of the service structureContribute to the Care Groups research interests in accordance with the Trusts RandD frameworkContribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from DeathsTake an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Groups Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agenciesConduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s)Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of postqualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintainedWork in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced.
