Salary: Up to £45,000 + discretionary bonus
Location: Harrow, London
Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days home
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Role
An opportunity for an experienced bureau payroll professional to join an established accountancy practice as the number two to the Payroll Manager.
This is a senior, hands-on processing role with responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 500 client payrolls, predominantly smaller businesses with 1–50 employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a large portfolio of weekly, monthly and annual client payrolls.
- Process starters, leavers, SSP, SMP, SPP and other payroll adjustments.
- Manage pensions and auto-enrolment requirements.
- Independently manage client payrolls from onboarding through to ongoing delivery.
- Review and sign off payroll work completed by other team members where required.
- Liaise directly with clients, HMRC, pension providers and other statutory bodies.
- Ensure payrolls meet agreed deadlines, SLAs and compliance requirements.
- Work closely with an offshore payroll team to support wider portfolio delivery.
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
Ideal Candidate
- Strong payroll bureau/accountancy practice experience is essential.
- Extensive end-to-end UK payroll processing experience.
- Able to independently manage a large portfolio of client payrolls.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions and statutory payments.
- Experience reviewing or checking other payroll professionals’ work.
- Previous team management experience is not essential.
- BrightPay, Xero and/or Sage experience would be advantageous.
- Suitable for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist, Payroll Supervisor or Payroll Team Leader looking for their next step.
