Tutor (SEMH experience)

Are you passionate about making a difference in a young person''s life? Do you have the creativity, patience, and resilience to support a student at risk of permanent exclusion (PEX) to re-engage with learning?
We are seeking a dedicated Alternative Provision Tutor to work 1:1 with a Year 7 student (soon to be Year 8) who is currently working at a Key Stage 2 level in English and Maths. This is a unique opportunity to build a meaningful relationship and help shape a brighter future for a young learner. This position is for 10-15 hours per week.
About the Learner:
- At risk of permanent exclusion (PEX)
- Presents with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs
- Can become emotionally dysregulated
- Has interests in music, beat boxing, dance, and fashion
- Needs a trusting, consistent relationship with a supportive adult
About you:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in UK schools as a TA, SEN TA, Cover Supervisor, Teacher, SENCO, or similar
- Experience supporting learners with SEMH needs
- Skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
- Experience working with young people with additional needs or those at risk of exclusion
- Strong interpersonal skills and a nurturing, empathetic approach
- Ability to deliver or support learning in KS2-level Maths and English
- Creative and adaptable, with a passion for engaging young people through their interests
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Hours - 10-15 Hours per week- for the right candidate, this can be increased to full time with additional tuition opportunities
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL
Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
- Hold right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Provide references upon request
- Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
