Surface and Highways Structures Works Engineer

Our client is searching for a Surface and Highways Structures Works Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is critical for the delivery and inspection of civil engineering projects across the London highway network, with an emphasis on reinforced concrete and structural steelwork elements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervising the construction of civil engineering assets to ensure compliance with approved designs.
• Conducting independent technical assurance and inspections of works.
• Reporting daily shift outcomes, including quality observations and non-conformances to the Senior Engineer.
• Ensuring site works are covered day to day with expected shift patterns including days, nights, and some weekends.
• Reviewing Inspection Test Plans and undertaking examinations against contract specifications.
• Overseeing the installation and inspection of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork.
• Ensuring health, safety, and environmental considerations are upheld during construction.
• Managing the handover and closeout processes for projects.

Job Requirements:

• Experience in delivering or inspecting reinforced concrete installations.
• Proficiency in reading reinforcement drawings and inspecting site works.
• Experience with structural steelwork installation and inspection.
• Familiarity with highways works, including structures, waterproofing, and surfacing.
• Knowledge of legislation, technical standards, and best practices relevant to engineering delivery.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental considerations in construction.
• Competency in project handover and closeout processes.
• Experience acting as TWC or working towards the required competency for the role.

Desirable:

• Experience in the highway and structural sector.
• IEng level or higher with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
• Experience as Works Examiner.
