Specialist Grade in Medical Retina

Overview
Specialist Grade Doctor for the Medical Retina Service at Moorfields Stratford. This role offers a full timetable with a total of ten sessions including face-to-face outpatient sessions, Laser and injections. Moorfields is a leading eye hospital focused on clinical care, research and education, with a long history and national reputation. The service focuses on NHS patients with a wide range of eye problems, enabling surgeons to develop expertise across sub-specialties. The main hospital base is in London’s City Road with additional sites across the capital to provide treatment closer to patients’ homes.
Job responsibilities
The post holder has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and for the proper functioning of the service, with appropriate delegation to and training of staff. The post holder will manage day-to-day clinic operations and ensure in/out-patient services are covered during planned absences. Participation in shared care requires providing advice and support to clinicians in other services for patients who may have multiple ocular problems.
All members of the consultant staff and honorary consultants are expected to contribute to Hospital committees as required and to participate in audit meetings. Staff are expected to participate in clinical governance and audit, meet annual training requirements, and satisfy the annual CPD requirements set by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. The specialist will teach postgraduate medical practitioners and all levels of staff as required in Hospital and Institute of Ophthalmology courses.
