Special School Assistants - Ad Hoc & Long-Term Supply
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND?
We are looking for Special School Assistants to join our team and work across a range of specialist education settings on an ad hoc, day-to-day supply basis, as well as longer-term placements.
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in education, care, nursing, support work or other relevant backgrounds. Most importantly, you will have a genuine passion for supporting children and young people and helping them to thrive.
The Role
As a Special School Assistant, you will provide practical, personal and emotional support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You may work alongside teachers, support staff and other professionals to create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting children and young people with a range of SEND needs.
- Providing individual and small-group support within the classroom.
- Supporting personal care and day-to-day wellbeing where required.
- Helping pupils to access learning, activities and wider school life.
- Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
- Following individual support plans and working as part of a wider team.
- Providing a calm, patient and reassuring presence.
- Adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
About You

- Confident working with children and young people with SEND.

Experience
Previous experience working within a specialist school or education setting is highly desirable.
However, we are also keen to hear from applicants with backgrounds in:
- Care and support work
- Nursing or healthcare
- Residential or community support
- Youth work
- Childcare
- Education or teaching support
- Other roles involving children, young people or individuals with additional needs
Relevant transferable experience will be considered.
