Senior Quantity Surveyor

Manchester | North West | Specialist Civils & Utilities | Permanent

-Competitive + package, depending on experience

Are you a-Senior Quantity Surveyor-who enjoys being hands-on and having real ownership of your projects?

Would you prefer working for a growing specialist contractor where your commercial input genuinely makes a difference, rather than being one of a large team of QSs?

This could be the opportunity for you.

We are working with an established-specialist civil engineering and utilities contractor-that is continuing to grow across Great Britain. The business has been established since 2007, with its headquarters in Ireland and a UK office in Luton, and is now looking to strengthen its commercial capability in the-North West.

With plans to establish a dedicated North West presence, this is an exciting time to join the business and play an important role in its continued development.

The Opportunity

As-Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will report directly to the Commercial Manager and take a hands-on role across a portfolio of projects typically valued between300k and -3m.

This isn''t a role where you''ll be restricted to one narrow area of commercial management. You''ll be involved across the full project lifecycle, from-estimating and pricing through to cost reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts.

The existing commercial function is deliberately lean, meaning you''ll have genuine responsibility and visibility with senior management.

You''ll be joining a business where people are expected to contribute, take ownership and get things done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial management of multiple civil engineering and utilities projects.
  • Preparing estimates, pricing works and supporting tender submissions.
  • Managing project budgets, cost plans and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Producing and managing CVRs and monthly commercial reports.
  • Preparing valuations and applications for payment.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, procurement and commercial negotiations.
  • Monitoring project costs, margins, risks and opportunities.
  • Managing variations, change and compensation events.
  • Administering NEC contracts, including early warnings and contractual correspondence.
  • Negotiating and agreeing interim and final accounts.
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and operational teams.
  • Providing commercial support to the Commercial Manager and senior leadership.

What We''re Looking For

We''re looking for a commercially capable-Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor-who is comfortable operating in a relatively autonomous environment.

You''ll need to be someone who can pick up a project, understand the commercial position and take ownership without needing a large commercial team around you.

Your background is likely to be within-civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure, with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Water / wastewater
  • Gas / gas networks
  • Pipework / pipelines
  • Heavy civils
  • Specialist civil engineering
  • Infrastructure
  • Utilities frameworks

Most importantly, you will have strong-NEC contract experience-and a good understanding of the commercial processes associated with NEC projects.

Essential Experience

  • Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
  • Strong NEC3 and/or NEC4 experience.
  • Experience with CVRs, valuations, cost reporting and final accounts.
  • Estimating and pricing experience.
  • Experience managing variations, change and commercial risk.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
  • Strong communication and commercial negotiation skills.
  • A proactive, self-sufficient approach.

A Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent qualification would be beneficial, as would-MRICS status or a willingness to work towards chartership.

Experience of-drilling, boring or other specialist civils-would also be advantageous but is not essential.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to join a-growing specialist contractor at a pivotal stage of its development.

Rather than joining an established commercial department where responsibilities are tightly divided, you''ll have the opportunity to become a key part of the commercial function and have a direct impact on how the business operates.

You''ll work closely with the Commercial Manager and senior leadership, helping to take commercial responsibility away from an increasingly busy management team while supporting the company''s continued expansion.

The role offers exposure to a varied project portfolio, genuine autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the commercial function as the North West operation develops.

If you''re an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure background and strong NEC experience, apply today for a confidential discussion.
