Overview

Senior Legal Counsel, PrivacyThis is a hybrid role based in London. The Senior Privacy Counsel will advise Sage colleagues on data protection issues globally, with a focus on product development and engineering, and on sales and marketing. The role includes providing privacy guidance to the Commercial and Product Legal teams on complex privacy matters and assisting with privacy risk incident management. The candidate will report to the Data Privacy Director and collaborate with the Data Privacy Legal team and the broader Sage legal team.Responsibilities

Provide high-quality legal advice on data protection laws (including GDPR and the UK Data Protection Act 2018) to stakeholders across Sage.Collaborate with regional colleagues and external counsel on matters outside the UK jurisdiction and on data privacy risk incidents; contribute to maintaining Sage’s data privacy compliance framework, including policy review and development; support the creation of external-facing materials such as privacy notices and consent notices.Identify and mitigate privacy risks; advise on GDPR compliance activities; support product and engineering teams in implementing privacy by design principles; lead advisory efforts on cookies, similar technologies, and digital advertising; contribute to the management of the data privacy operating model.Act as a key contact for EU local legal and data privacy matters; develop and deliver training materials to colleagues across Sage.Develop, mentor, and potentially manage more junior members of the team.Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and processes to ensure Sage’s compliance with data protection legal requirements.Qualifications

Minimum: Robust knowledge of data protection laws with significant post-qualification experience advising corporate organisations, preferably in-house.Business-oriented mindset with operational focus; familiarity with emerging technologies such as ad tech, AI, and machine learning; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; strong communication for non-legal colleagues.Advanced behavioural competencies including effective communication, collaboration, customer focus, and adaptability; experience with privacy management tools (e.g., OneTrust) is desirable.Preferred: In-house experience or secondment roles and a track record of working on complex projects.Technical/professional: Qualified lawyer with substantial post-qualification data protection expertise in the UK and EU; knowledge of other jurisdictions preferred; IAPP CIPP/E certification or similar.Benefits
