Are you an experienced Healthcare Support Worker ready for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Centralised Outpatients Department. Our busy department sees on average 7000 patients per week in clinics covering Gate 5 (Vascular, Rheumatology, Haematology, Renal, Colorectal and Upper GI), Gate 12 (Orthopaedics, Medicine including Cardiology, Diabetes, Respiratory and Endocrinology), Gate 24 (Dermatology, Upper GI surgery and Colorectal), Gate 36 (Neurology, Infectious Diseases, ENT and Care of the Elderly) and Cossham Hospital in all listed specialties. We are recruiting a Senior Healthcare Support Worker who is passionate about learning and safe patient care, with flexibility to accommodate various shift times and patterns within the Trust and occasionally cover clinics in Cossham, Yate, Thornbury, and South Bristol.Note: This role does not currently meet the minimum £25,000 salary threshold for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, effective from 9 April 2025. Higher pay points may be available depending on NHS experience; most new appointments start at the lower band.The advert may close early if we receive a high volume of applications. A Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) is a core team member delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to provide high quality, compassionate care in line with assessed needs and care plans. You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks under supervision, in accordance with the Trust values.There will be opportunities to develop knowledge and skills specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and area-specific skills. Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.Duties are delegated to you in line with care plans.Not all duties are routine; use knowledge and judgment to make decisions within your area of responsibility.Carry out a range of clinical duties with minimal/no supervision, including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse, respiration, glucose monitoring, collection/testing of urine/faecal/sputum samples and wound swabs, ensuring high-quality patient care. Education/Training/Qualifications – Essential
One of the following: Level 3 RQF, SCQF; City and Guilds 3; NVQ 3; BTEC National Diploma; Equivalent experience (minimum 12 months); GCSE English and Maths grade A–C (or equivalent); Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker); Equivalent experience.Desirable
Completion of venepuncture and physiological measurements competencies.Knowledge and Experience – Essential
At least 12 months experience in a health or social care setting; prior experience as a support worker; ability to work as part of a team; good time management and prioritisation; caring approach to patients and relatives.Desirable
Experience in an acute hospital setting.Skills and Abilities – Essential
