In joining the Assystem Environment Consents and Engagement Practice as a Senior Environmental Consultant, you will form part of our established Environmental Management service offering.The initial role would be as an onsite Environmental Manager for Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station infrastructure project. The role will involve:Supporting the completion, submission, and assurance of environmental consents / permits including discharge consentsAuthoring and updating the Construction Environmental Management Plan, along with linked discipline plansUnderstanding the marine environment, developing and maintaining a Marine Method Statement and Navigational Risk AssessmentSupporting project ecologists to raise awareness of site constraints and mitigationsLiaising with local stakeholders, local authorities, Environment Agency, contractors, or consultantsSupporting the site to ensure duty of care for waste, including review of waste transfer notes / hazardous waste, reporting waste volumes, segregation, and waste testing (WAC tests)Advising the project team on all environmental risks and compliance, attending regular update meetings, and leading on environmental updates / progressConducting site environmental inspections and targeted audits, sometimes with clients or project teams, to identify and mitigate risks including pollution preventionProviding toolbox talks and training on environmental matters such as presence of protected species and spill kit trainingReporting and investigating incidents or near misses, and closing actionsJob Skills, Experience and QualificationsMinimum associate membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g., IEMA, CIEEM)An understanding of environmental risks and opportunities in construction, infrastructure, property, or energy sectorsAbility to work independently and as part of a team; lead, develop, manage, and motivate teams in changing environmentsStrong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and negotiationProficiency in Microsoft OfficeSelf-motivated, able to work on own initiativeAbility to manage multiple activities and projects simultaneouslyAbility to build and maintain client relationshipsFull membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional institute / Chartered EnvironmentalistMasters degree in a relevant subjectWork experience in construction, infrastructure, property, or energy sectorsTypical Work Activities / Key Accountabilities:Senior Consultants may work independently or within multidisciplinary teams, managing their own tasks with support available from specialists and senior staff. Responsibilities will vary depending on client and project stage, and may involve working on multiple projects and clients.Key tasks include:Environmental project management : conducting site inspections, compliance audits, developing management processes, interpreting data, managing consents, advising project teams, liaising with regulatorsSustainability strategy : conducting appraisals, developing action plans, leading design reviews for sustainable optionsEMS development : leading efforts to achieve ISO14001 certification, implementing policies, managing audits, communication, and trainingEIA : reviewing and drafting EIA chapters, supporting planning applicationsEcology services : assisting with habitat and species surveys, report writing, data analysis, managing subcontractorsEnvironmental Permitting : managing environmental consents and permitsAdditional duties may include business development and bid writing.Benefits include:
