We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior or Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to delivering projects across the Midlands, Southwest, and Wales.
Our work spans a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, transportation, defence, and energy. Previous experience in these areas would be a strong advantage for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret and fully understand project briefs to ensure accurate delivery.
- Design and specify complete Electrical Building Services systems, including power, earthing, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection.
- Prepare technical specifications using NBS and maintain comprehensive records in line with company standards.
- Collaborate with the BIM team to develop models and drawings, applying a working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
- Conduct site surveys, inspections, and monitor on-site activities.
- Produce detailed engineering calculations using industry-standard tools such as Excel, Amtech, Dialux/Relux, and in-house software, while managing contributions from others.
- Write reports and technical notes to support project documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all quality, environmental, and governance processes.
- Manage personal workload effectively, regularly updating forward plans and working within allocated timeframes.
- Oversee aspects of project delivery, including budget awareness and cost estimation.
- Review progress, identify anomalies, and report scope changes to the project lead.
- Support the technical development and mentoring of junior team members.
- Hold a degree (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Preferably a Chartered Engineer with CIBSE or IET accreditation.
- Strong proficiency in software tools such as Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft Office; experience with HV tools is an advantage.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency strategies and approaches for decarbonising both new and existing buildings.
- Understanding of energy and carbon data collection and analytics.
- Awareness of building physics principles, including passive design and fabric-first strategies.
- Skilled in designing for measurement and verification, with experience in commissioning and post-installation performance evaluation.
- Previous experience in a design consultancy or contractor design environment is essential.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant technical standards.
- Ability to manage project deliverables, make decisions independently, and work proactively.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills, with experience attending client meetings.
- Comfortable working within agreed timeframes and cost budgets set during project briefings.
- Willingness to undertake additional tasks as required by management to maintain organisational flexibility.
