Senior Civil Engineer
Senior Civil Engineer
Are you an experienced Civil Engineer in Edinburgh ready to take the lead on projects, shape the direction of a growing team and have a genuine influence on the developments you work on? We''re recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer for a growing multidisciplinary consultancy that offers exactly that.
This consultancy brings together town planning, landscape architecture and civil engineering under one roof. Its engineers work alongside in-house planners and landscape architects from the earliest stages of a scheme. The team of chartered engineers and scientists delivers flood risk and drainage expertise across a varied portfolio, including residential developments and infrastructure-scale battery storage projects, from concept and planning through to detailed design, construction and sign-off.
Rather than being one senior voice among many in a large engineering machine, you''ll lead projects and client relationships directly. Most of the consultancy''s work comes from repeat clients and referrals, so you''ll be trusted to maintain and grow long-standing relationships with developers, project managers, architects and fellow consultants, and to see the impact of your decisions across the full project lifecycle.
Your work will include:
- Leading drainage and SuDS strategies and detailed design for residential and energy infrastructure developments
- Preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Impact Assessments and development infrastructure proposals
- Managing Scottish Water connections, adoptions (Sewers for Scotland), build-overs and diversions through to agreement
- Securing SEPA authorisations and other environmental consents
- Steering projects through planning, Roads Construction Consent and technical approvals, liaising with local authorities, flood prevention teams, Scottish Water and SEPA
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, managing programmes, fees and deliverables
- Checking and reviewing the work of junior engineers, and mentoring them as they develop
- Contributing to bids, fee proposals and the continued growth of the civils team
Why consider the move?
This role suits a senior engineer who wants more than technical delivery. You''ll have genuine ownership of projects and clients, a visible role in shaping how the team grows, and the opportunity to influence the direction of a consultancy where your contribution really counts. You''ll work across a strong mix of residential and battery energy storage schemes in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, following projects from initial feasibility right through to construction.
What we''re looking for:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered (ICE / CIWEM) or close to achieving chartership
- Significant experience in drainage, SuDS, flood risk and development infrastructure within a consultancy setting
- A strong track record of taking schemes through planning and technical approvals in Scotland
- Confidence managing clients, programmes and junior team members
- Proficiency with drainage design software (e.g. MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow, Civil 3D)
If you''re an experienced Civil Engineer in drainage, flood risk or development infrastructure based in or around Edinburgh, and you''re ready for a senior role with real ownership, influence and room to progress, I''d be keen to speak with you.
