Senior Bookkeeper Job Overview
- Manage day-to-day client bookkeeping across a varied portfolio including sole traders, limited companies, and partnerships.
- Complete accurate sales and purchase ledger processing, bank reconciliations, and trial balance preparation.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and CIS returns, ensuring full compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) guidelines.
- Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts along with supporting reconciliation schedules.
- Onboard new clients onto cloud software and assist with digital migration and process improvements.
- Ensure all client bookkeeping files are completed accurately and statutory filing deadlines are consistently met.
- Assist in the training, development, and day-to-day queries of junior members of staff and apprentices.
Senior Bookkeeper Job Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of proven bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice is essential.
- AAT Level 3/4 or ICB qualification (or equivalent) is highly desirable, though candidates qualified by experience will also be considered.
- Advanced proficiency in major cloud accounting platforms (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and receipt-processing tools (e.g., Dext, Hubdoc).
- Solid understanding of UK VAT regulations, CIS schemes, and Making Tax Digital compliance.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, busy team.
- Commitment to onsite working in the Leeds office.
