SEND Teaching Assistant
We are currently seeking a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil within a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lewisham. The role involves providing 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is non-verbal and requires additional assistance with communication, personal care, and behavioural support.The RoleAs a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:Provide dedicated 1:1 support within the Reception classroom.Support a pupil with ASD and significant communication needs.Use visual aids, communication strategies, and sensory approaches to support learning and engagement.Assist with personal care when required.Help manage challenging behaviours in a calm, positive, and consistent manner.Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have:Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASD.Experience working with non-verbal pupils.Confidence supporting personal care needs.A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management.Strong communication and teamwork skills.A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.DesirableExperience within a primary school or early years setting.Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication methods.Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications.Spanish speaking What We OfferA supportive and welcoming school ..... full job details .....
