We are looking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our SEN schools in Northampton. This role will be a full time role, five days a week from 8.30 -3.45 to start as soon as possible.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people (11-18) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and who wants to make a genuine difference to their learning, development, wellbeing and independence.

Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students in the classroom and across the wider school environment, including providing more intensive support for students with additional needs.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to support learning across areas such as literacy, numeracy and ICT.
  • Adapt activities and learning resources to meet individual student needs and promote inclusion and equality of access.
  • Support students with their education, behaviour and personal development plans.
  • Promote independence, positive behaviour, social skills and confidence.
  • Provide personal care support where required, including toileting, hygiene and feeding/meal times.
  • Support students with mobility equipment, such as wheelchairs, standing frames, walking aids and hoists, following appropriate training and procedures.
  • Assist trained staff with medical and healthcare procedures where required.
  • Respond appropriately to students who are unwell or injured and follow school health and safety procedures.
  • Use positive communication and behaviour-management strategies to support students in managing their behaviour and resolving conflict.
  • Support students during breaktimes, lunchtimes, trips, visits and other activities.
  • Monitor, record and provide feedback on students'' progress and contribute to student profiles and records of achievement.

  • Has a genuine enthusiasm for working with children and young people with SEND.
  • Has a good understanding of special educational needs and the challenges some students may experience.
  • Is patient, compassionate, calm and able to respond positively to challenging situations.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is able to build trusting and positive relationships with students.
  • Is confident supporting students with personal care needs.
  • Is able to work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative when appropriate.
  • Is adaptable and willing to develop new skills and take on new challenges.
  • Has good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding.
  • Is committed to promoting equality, inclusion, dignity and respect for every student.
