The school in Milton Keynes is seeking a patient, resilient, and proactive who can build positive relationships with pupils and provide tailored support to children with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH difficulties.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team in Milton Keynes to help pupils access the curriculum, develop their confidence, and overcome barriers to learning. You will provide both academic and pastoral support, helping create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all pupils.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and engage with classroom activities
  • Assisting teachers with the delivery of learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop appropriate strategies for managing their emotions
  • Building strong, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and parents where appropriate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, or Support Worker
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Resilience and confidence when supporting pupils with challenging behaviours or complex needs
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
  • A proactive, adaptable, and positive attitude
