SEMH Teaching Assistant

English Teacher – SEMH | Southampton

Start: October 2026
Contract: Long-term, initially until Christmas with potential to July 2027
Pay: £175–£260 per day
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday

Supply Desk is working with a specialist alternative provision in Southampton looking for an English Teacher to join their team from October.

You’ll be teaching English Language and Literacy across KS3 and KS4 to students with SEMH needs, working in a small, supportive setting where relationships and consistency are key.

This would suit an experienced English Teacher, SEND Teacher or someone with strong experience supporting students who have struggled within mainstream education.

The role:

• Teach engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4
• Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
• Support students with SEMH and additional needs
• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners
• Promote engagement, confidence and resilience
• Track progress and provide meaningful feedback
• Work closely with SEND, pastoral and safeguarding teams

We''re looking for:

• QTS or equivalent
• Strong English subject knowledge
• Secondary teaching experience
• Confident classroom and behaviour management
• Experience with SEND/SEMH is desirable
• A patient, consistent and relationship-led approach
• A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners
