Step Teachers Manchester are hiring for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant in Bury.

This is a Temp-to-Perm role, starting ASAP at a Secondary Alternative Education Provision in Bury.
Role: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant at Secondary Alternative Provision in Bury.
Start: ASAP.
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.
Contract: Temp-to-Perm – could move onto contract at end of 12 weeks.
Pay - £95-110/day DOE for first 12 weeks.
Paid PAYE direct via Step Teachers. We don’t use umbrella companies!
Equal pay to perm staff in similar role from 13th weeks onwards anyway, if staying temp at this point.

What you’ll do:
- Support children with SEMH, challenging behaviours, and Autism in class.
- Show empathy, patience, and perseverance to pupils from vulnerable backgrounds & provide encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Identify triggers and use preventative and de-escalation strategies for behaviour management.
- Break down tasks and instructions for easier understanding and achievement.
- Support the wider class or other pupils as needed.
- Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and outside professionals.
- Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and collaborative environment.

Requirements
- CV with at least 10 years of work & education history.
- Right to Work, ID & Proof of Address in the UK.
- DBS certificate on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for a new one).
- References covering the last 2 years.
- Overseas Police Check (if applicable).
