Section Engineer

The Opportunity

We’re currently looking for a skilled Freelance Section Engineer to join a high-profile heavy civil engineering project near Bridgwater. The contract rolls until October 2026 when there is the potential to transfer onto other sections of the project. This role offers excellent long-term continuity on a flagship scheme—ideal for contractors seeking stability and consistency.
This is a major infrastructure project made up of multiple workstreams, providing a diverse and technically challenging environment throughout its lifecycle.

The Project

This scheme covers a wide range of heavy civil engineering activities, including:

• Sheet piling operations
• Large-scale earthworks
• River diversions and realignments
• Bridges and Culverts

The complexity of the works ensures a dynamic role with ongoing technical challenges and opportunities to stay fully engaged.

The Role

As a Section Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering works within your assigned section, collaborating closely with site teams and subcontractors.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Setting out and overseeing site works
• Supporting and mentoring Site Engineers
• Ensuring quality standards and compliance
• Promoting and maintaining Health & Safety on site
• Managing and coordinating subcontractors
• Participating in as-built and progress meetings
• Ordering materials and ensuring site readiness

All necessary equipment and tools will be provided.

About You

We’re keen to hear from experienced Site or Section Engineers with a solid background in heavy civils. Relevant experience may include:

• Major highways and infrastructure projects
• Reinforced concrete structures (bridges, viaducts, etc.)
• Water or wastewater treatment schemes
• Flood defence or alleviation works
• Bulk earthworks

You’ll also have:

• BASED WITHIN ONE HOUR OF THE BRIDGWATER AREA
• A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
• Demonstrable experience across heavy civil engineering disciplines such as earthworks, RC, marine or river works
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• A full UK driving licence
• The right to work in the UK

Rate & Package

• £340 – £350 per day (plus holiday pay), depending on experience
• Long-term freelance contract on a major infrastructure project
• All site equipment provided
