Are you an experienced Highways Supervisor looking for your next freelance opportunity in London?
We are currently recruiting for a Freelance Schemes Supervisor / Highways Site Supervisor to support the delivery of highway investigations, improvement and road renewal schemes across London.
Working alongside the Construction Manager and Projects Delivery Manager, you will take a hands-on role in overseeing site delivery, coordinating contractors and ensuring schemes are delivered safely, on programme and in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Highways Supervisor, Schemes Supervisor, Site Supervisor or Highways Site Manager with strong London highways experience looking for a freelance contract.
The Opportunity
You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of multiple highways schemes across the London HMPF and STICF contracts.
The role will involve working closely with contractors, clients, Boroughs, designers, stakeholders and commercial teams, making this a great opportunity for someone who is confident managing multiple workstreams and contractors simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
·Review and check Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Construction Phase Plans
·Monitor works programmes and liaise with contractors, clients and Boroughs to ensure programme dates are achieved
·Coordinate relationships between designers, contractors, stakeholders and clients
·Maintain accurate daily site records, including photographs, plant and labour resources
·Manage permits to work, permits to dig and approval processes in accordance with SHEMS requirements
·Ensure all permitting conditions are maintained and adhered to
·Assist in resolving site and construction issues, escalating changes to the Scheme Engineer, Designer or Quantity Surveyor
·Ensure schemes are constructed in accordance with approved designs, specifications and requirements
·Monitor workforce compliance with health and safety, environmental and site rules
·Inspect daily Traffic Management layouts and address any issues identified
·Produce site documentation and ensure inductions, POWRA and daily briefings are completed
·Complete weekly safety inspections and attend weekly NOVADE safety meetings
·Provide detailed information to the Scheme QS to support Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
·Provide as-built and post-construction information for completion of the Health & Safety File
What We''re Looking For
The successful Freelance Schemes Supervisor will ideally have:
·Proven experience working within highways construction
·Knowledge of NEC3 contracts and experience issuing CVIs
·Good knowledge of the Specification for Highway Works
·Experience managing multiple contractors and workstreams simultaneously
·Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills
·A full manual driving licence
·Temporary Works Coordinator or Temporary Works Supervisor experience is preferred
·Strong knowledge of Chapter 8 and Traffic Management
·CSCS card preferred
·SMSTS or NRSWA certification required
·Ability to work effectively as part of a wider delivery team
