OverviewRotational Occupational Therapist - Band 5
Contract - Permanent. Full-Time 37.5 hours per week. The post is on the inter-trust and social services Band 5 OT rotation in the London boroughs of Camden and Islington.Rotations are 8 months in clinical areas, which include acute, intermediate care and rehabilitation, mental health, paediatrics and social services. The post holder is a full member of the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for a caseload of patients as delegated by the Senior or Team Leader. The post holder is professionally and legally accountable for work undertaken and will maintain a high standard of clinical practice, using evidence-based approaches and where possible local and standardized assessments and outcome measures.Main duties of the job: Please refer to the Job Description and the Persons Specification for full details. Job locations: Whittington Hospital, Magdala Avenue, London, N19 5NF.Job Description and Main ResponsibilitiesClinical: Assess and treat patients addressing quality of life, physical, cognitive, affective, social and environmental issues, either individually or in groups, using a range of therapeutic skills in accordance with treatment plans in hospital and community settings. Prioritise factors in the client’s presenting condition using clinical reasoning based on skills, knowledge, experience and current professional opinion, and consider progress and other health and social factors.Communication: Use well-developed verbal and non-verbal communication to ensure patients and/or carers understand advice, education and recommendations. Produce written, electronic and verbal reports for the MDT and other health or social care providers, conveying information to patients in an accessible manner, even where barriers exist.Education / Professional: Develop skills, keep up to date with current practice, support the education and training of other professionals and participate in education programmes for client/service groups.Management: Maintain accurate and evaluative records of patient care in line with service policy. Delegate appropriate work to staff in supporting roles and provide day-to-day support to Rehabilitation Assistants and students to enable a managed caseload.Research: Participate in the evaluation of clinical practice and keep up to date with developments in rehabilitation, older people and related areas.Requires access to Job Description and Personal Specification for full outline of main role and responsibilities.Person Specification
Essential: Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy; HCPC registration; IELTS Level 7.0+ for overseas candidates. Desirable: BAOT membership; relevant postgraduate training.Experience: Essential – work or placement in an acute hospital setting or related areas; understanding of multidisciplinary team working; experience of working with patients as an OT or student OT with complex medical and social presentations. Desirable – voluntary or independent work in other settings; group work.Knowledge: Essential – knowledge of physical pathology related to rotational work areas; understanding of impact of illness/disability; competence in core OT assessments; experience in designing and implementing treatment programmes; client-centered care; knowledge of current legislation relating to OT.Skills and Abilities: Essential – clear professional communication, excellent clinical documentation, liaison with health sectors; prioritisation and caseload management; ability to meet deadlines; activity analysis; clinical reasoning.
