Senior Quantity Surveyor – Main Contractor
Our client is an established and growing main contractor delivering a diverse range of high-quality construction projects across London and the Home Counties.
With a strong pipeline of new projects and continued growth across the business, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable taking ownership of projects from pre-construction through to final account and enjoys working closely with clients, subcontractors and project teams.
The business delivers a mixture of new-build, refurbishment, residential, commercial, education, leisure and specialist projects, providing plenty of variety across the role.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of allocated projects, working closely with the Commercial Director, Contracts Managers and wider project teams.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-construction through to completion
• Preparing and managing project budgets and cost plans
• Cost control and commercial reporting
• Preparing monthly valuations and applications for payment
• Managing variations, compensation events and change control
• Preparing and reviewing CVRs
• Managing project forecasting and cash flow
• Procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
• Reviewing subcontractor packages and negotiating commercial terms
• Managing subcontractor accounts
• Preparing and agreeing final accounts
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
• Maintaining accurate project cost records
• Supporting tender and pre-construction activities
• Working closely with the site and project management teams
• Building strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors
• Providing commercial advice to the wider project team
• Ensuring contractual procedures are followed
• Supporting junior members of the commercial team
• Reporting commercial performance to senior management

About You
The successful candidate will have a strong background in main contracting and will be confident managing projects commercially with limited supervision.
You will ideally have:

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor
• Main contracting experience
• Strong experience with JCT contracts
• Design & Build experience
• Proven experience managing projects through to final account
• Strong knowledge of cost control, forecasting and CVRs
• Experience procuring and managing subcontract packages
• Excellent commercial and contractual awareness
• Strong negotiation skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good communication and relationship-building skills
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• ASTA experience would be advantageous
• Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification or equivalent experience
• CSCS would be advantageous
• SMSTS would be advantageous
• Full UK driving licence
