Project Manager - Civil Engineering (Shaft Sinking)
We''re recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading civil engineering contractor on a long-term infrastructure programme in Manchester. This role focuses on shaft sinking and heavy civils, managing projects from feasibility through to handover in the water sector. You''ll oversee multiple schemes, driving performance across programme, safety, commercial delivery, and quality compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver projects from design phase through to completion
- Manage budgets, programmes, and monthly reporting
- Coordinate consultants, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams
- Ensure full compliance with NEC contracts (early warnings, compensation events, etc.)
- Lead health, safety and environmental performance on site
- Prepare risk assessments, ITPs, and project documentation
- Support tendering and estimating for future work
Requirements:
- Significant experience in shaft sinking projects (essential)
- Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts
- Proficient in Primavera P6 or equivalent software
- SMSTS and CSCS (Manager card)
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (desirable)
- Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills
