OverviewThe Finance Department provides support to the business and fulfils internal and external financial reporting functions. It is responsible for providing monthly and quarterly reports on business performance to management and all areas of the organisation, including head office in Tokyo. It performs a vital role in the annual business planning process, coordinates the external audit, produces published accounts, and is responsible for tax policy and compliance. The Finance Department’s Regulatory Reporting Team monitors and reports regulatory capital and liquidity, and provides reports to the Bank of England and the Japanese Financial Services Agency (JFSA).
The Product Control area is responsible for the main internal reporting and control functions relating to the trading elements of the Company. It works closely with the business and Risk Management department in London and Tokyo.
What will you be doing?Primary responsibilities are to produce and analyse defined daily trading PandL, verify the values of the positions held by the trading desks and substantiate Trial Balance line items and other trading related balances. You will provide supervisory oversight of the onshore team producing desk-based reporting. You should develop a good understanding of the products and trading desk strategies to generate revenue, and maintain a control framework for review and oversight by junior team members.
PandL reporting: Daily, Monthly and Year-to-Date Trading PandL and Balance Sheet for assigned desks; PandL attribution and commentary
Reconciliation between front office systems, sub-ledger and general ledger
Report material adjustments to PandL, including discrepancies to desk''s flash
Investigate and resolve balance sheet breaks in a timely manner
Meet daily and monthly reporting deadlines
Daily control checks completed and reviewed
Make, review and challenge Post Close Entries (PCEs)
Plan and track resolution of infrastructure issues
Daily FX exposure reporting
Month-end cost-plus processing and other adjustments
Assist Team Supervisor with weekly and monthly commentary/analysis for Head of Department
Build strong working relationships with Revenue division and other support departments
Oversight and Team Supervision
Supervision and development of more junior staff
Establish control checkpoints to ensure deliveries meet standards and deadlines
Project Management
Manage small projects to deliver process improvements and efficiencies
Review new business initiatives and PC functional requirements
What do you need to succeed?
Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Maths or related quantitative discipline
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Aptitude to learn accounting concepts and financial products
Proficient in Microsoft Excel; strong organizational and time-management skills
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Collaborative nature and ability to support change
