Principal Engineer - Safety (Programmable Elements)

Responsibilities
Conducting Programmable Elements Safety Engineering Activities, such as PHA, FTA and PSSA/SSA in support of the Combat System Design Safety Justification and Whole Boat Safety CaseDetermining the causes of Systematic Programmable Elements Safety failures and performing Common cause analysisDefining and monitoring Programmable Elements Safety Requirements and ensuring compliance with CASS TOESOrganising and contributing to Hazard Identification workshops and Safety Committee meetingsThe integration/acceptance of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) productsEngaging with third parties, such as equipment or system suppliers, to review and gather supporting Programmable Elements Safety evidence in accordance with Def Stan 00-055Reporting the progress of Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities at Project and Programme reviewsWorking within an established Safety Management System and making recommendations for improvements based on expertise and experienceQualifications
Demonstrable experience in Programmable Elements Safety Engineering and in activities contributing to the production of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) allocation documents to develop Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSA) and System Safety Assessment (SSA)Able to demonstrate experience in understanding the safety of systems with Programmable Elements in accordance with Def Stan 00-055 and Def Stan 00-056Experience in Safety Engineering and Programmable Elements Safety Requirements in accordance with IEC/BS EN 61508 in the defence domainAble to demonstrate competence in the rigour of Software Development Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Design Assurance Level (DAL) depending on industry experienceRelevant engineering qualification such as BEng/MEng or equivalent experienceIncorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer or working towardsSecurity and eligibility
