Preconstruction Project Manager

We are partnering with a leading Tier 1 Main Contractor to appoint an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join their East Midlands leadership team, based from their Nottingham office.

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for leading and coordinating an established preconstruction team across a range of technical disciplines, including Estimating, Planning, Preconstruction Project Management, and specialist support functions.

Reporting to the Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company''s approach to new opportunities, driving successful bid strategies and ensuring the delivery of commercially robust, technically sound, and deliverable solutions across a diverse project portfolio.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Operations, Commercial, Design, Planning, Building Services, and Business Development, you will provide strategic leadership throughout the preconstruction lifecycle. This role requires someone who can see the bigger picture, balancing customer requirements, commercial objectives, technical challenges, programme considerations, risk management, and project deliverability.

You will regularly engage with clients, consultants, supply chain partners, and senior business leaders, ensuring the right expertise is brought together at every stage to maximise success and secure the right projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the East Midlands preconstruction team across multiple technical disciplines, providing leadership, direction, and support to Preconstruction Project Managers and wider team members.
• Mentor and develop senior team members, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
• Establish priorities and ensure focus remains on the most strategically important opportunities.
• Lead major bids and preconstruction activities from early-stage engagement through to contract award.
• Develop and implement winning bid strategies aligned with customer requirements and business objectives.
• Ensure full alignment between technical, commercial, operational, and design teams throughout the bid process.
• Challenge and review design solutions, methodologies, programmes, logistics strategies, procurement approaches, and project risks.
• Ensure all submissions are competitive, commercially viable, and fully deliverable.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and key external stakeholders.
• Support seamless project handovers from preconstruction into operational delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement across processes, procedures, and overall preconstruction capability.

Education, Skills and experience

• Construction related degree / equivalent
• Proven experience in a senior preconstruction role within a main contracting environment.
• Strong track record of leading complex bids and managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrable leadership experience, with the ability to develop, mentor, and manage experienced professionals.
• Excellent understanding of the full preconstruction process, including bids, tenders, negotiated work, and PCSA agreements.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project risk.
• Full UK driving licence.
