Make a difference to workplace health and wellbeing
Are you a Registered Nurse looking to use your clinical expertise in a role focused on prevention, early intervention and employee wellbeing?
We're seeking an Occupational Health Surveillance Nurse to support the delivery of health surveillance programmes across a varied organisational portfolio. This is an opportunity to play a key role in identifying potential work-related ill health, supporting employee wellbeing and helping ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.
You'll work with colleagues across Occupational Health, Health & Safety and wider operational teams, delivering clinical assessments, interpreting results in line with agreed protocols and ensuring concerns are escalated appropriately.
What you'll be doing
Deliver baseline and periodic health surveillance assessments in line with workplace risk assessments and statutory requirements.
Undertake health surveillance activities including audiometry, spirometry, respiratory questionnaires, hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) screening and skin surveillance, within your competence.
Interpret results in accordance with agreed clinical protocols, identifying abnormal findings and arranging appropriate follow-up, referral or escalation.
Provide employees with clear information and advice on occupational health risks, including noise exposure, respiratory hazards, dermatitis prevention and vibration.
Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records and prepare surveillance reports in line with information governance requirements.
Support statutory reporting processes and ensure relevant concerns are escalated through the appropriate channels.
Supervise and sign off health surveillance undertaken by Occupational Health Technicians, including relevant fitness certificates and escalations.
Support the Occupational Health Surveillance Nurse Manager with wellbeing initiatives and colleague sustainability programmes.
Assist with clinical audits, quality assurance, equipment checks and continuous improvement of procedures and protocols.
Promote a safe, inclusive and accessible service, ensuring employees receive appropriate explanations, informed consent and reasonable adjustments.
Maintain your professional registration, clinical competence and continuing professional development.
Deputise for the Occupational Health Surveillance Nurse Manager when required.
What we're looking for
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse, with no restrictions that would prevent you from undertaking the role.
An occupational health qualification, such as a Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing.
Previous experience in an Occupational Health service and/or delivering statutory health surveillance programmes.
Clinical assessment and screening experience.
Competence in relevant health surveillance procedures, including audiometry, spirometry, HAVS Tier 2 screening and skin surveillance, as applicable to your training and scope of practice.
HAVS Tier 3 competence or a willingness to undertake the required training.
A sound understanding of clinical confidentiality, informed consent, data protection and professional standards.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain clinical findings and advice clearly.
Good organisational skills, accurate record-keeping and confidence using clinical IT systems and Microsoft Office.
The ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and maintain scheduled surveillance programmes.
A commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical audit and ongoing professional development.
A full driving licence and access to your own transport to travel between organisational sites.
The role may involve occasional overnight stays and early starts to accommodate colleagues' working hours.
Desirable experience
It would be advantageous if you also have:
Relevant audiometry and/or spirometry training or competency certificates.
Experience interpreting workplace risk assessments and linking health surveillance to occupational hazards.
Knowledge of HSE guidance and recognised occupational health standards.
Why consider this opportunity?
This role offers the chance to apply your nursing expertise in a preventative, workplace-focused setting, helping identify health concerns early and supporting colleagues to remain safe and well at work.
You'll contribute to a service that combines clinical assessment, health and safety compliance, employee wellbeing and continuous improvement.
