Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire

Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 depending on experience + benefits

Are you an experienced Operations Manager with a strong background in engineering or manufacturing?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established precision engineering business in Halifax, where you will take ownership of the day-to-day operation and play a key role in the future development of the company.

This is not simply a role where you will be expected to maintain the status quo. The business is looking for someone who can take ownership, identify opportunities for improvement and deliver measurable results.

You will initially work alongside the retiring Operations Director during a handover and get-acquainted period, giving you the opportunity to understand the business, its people, processes and customers before taking full responsibility for the operation.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day manufacturing operation, ensuring people, machinery, materials and production capacity are effectively managed to meet customer requirements.

You will be a visible and hands-on presence within the business, working closely with production, engineering, quality and planning to keep things moving and identify areas for improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing the overall day-to-day operational and manufacturing performance of the business.

Leading, managing and developing production and engineering teams.

Ensuring production schedules and customer delivery commitments are achieved.

Using ERP data and KPIs to monitor workflow, capacity, productivity and performance.

Identifying production bottlenecks and implementing practical solutions.

Driving improvements in productivity, efficiency, machine utilisation and cost control.

Working closely with Quality to address non-conformances and prevent repeat issues.

Ensuring Health & Safety standards and company procedures are maintained.

Supporting recruitment, training, development and performance management.

Working with purchasing and suppliers to ensure materials, tooling and external services are available when required.

Supporting future decisions around machinery, equipment, tooling and production capability.

Building a positive culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Providing regular operational updates to the directors and owners.

About You

You will ideally already be working as an Operations Manager, or in a similar senior operational role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

You will have a strong practical understanding of manufacturing and ideally precision engineering, together with a proven track record of improving operational performance.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate what they have achieved, rather than simply tell us what they have been responsible for.

You will ideally have experience of:

Managing production and engineering teams.

Production planning, capacity management and resource allocation.

Using KPIs to monitor and improve operational performance.

Improving productivity, efficiency and manufacturing processes.

Quality, Health & Safety and compliance.

Managing costs and understanding commercial performance.

Leading and developing people.

Working in a hands-on, practical manufacturing environment.

Most importantly, you will be someone who is comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and being accountable for results.
