Nutrition Nurse Specialist - Gastroenterology

We are recruiting for a Nutrition Specialist Nurse to join the established nutrition support team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a countywide appointment with the majority of surgical services and Gastroenterology based on the Worcester Site. We welcome applicants with experience in related areas such as endoscopy, ITU, gastroenterology and surgical wards; prior nutrition nurse experience is desirable. The role may be full time (37.5 hours per week) with flexibility for part-time or flexible-working arrangements.Main duties
You will oversee TPN administration and work closely with other members of the nutrition support team. Provide telephone support to patients, carers and GPs in the community to avoid AandE attendance. Act as a resource to all disciplines on matters pertaining to nutrition and undertake audit, training and education, quality and risk management. You will be required to manage a caseload, work independently, and liaise with the Lead Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist as needed. You will also provide specialist clinical leadership within the MDT to promote safe, evidence-based practice and to reduce inappropriate referrals, admissions and length of stay for patients with artificial feeding devices. In collaboration with peers, you will help develop protocols and pathways and contribute to audits and research to enhance service quality. The clinical base will be in the hospital with flexible working across Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust sites according to patient demand, and includes providing a telephone response service to multi-professional groups and patients in the community.About us

The post holder will be an expert practitioner in Nutrition Specialist Nursing for adult patients with enteral and parenteral feeding devices. Work autonomously, recognise when issues fall outside guidelines, and seek advice from the Lead Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist. Provide education to other healthcare professionals involved in managing patients with artificial feeding devices. Lead clinical governance initiatives and collaborate with the MDT to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and length of stay. Maintain a hospital-based clinical base with flexible cross-site work and provide telephone support to communities to enhance coordinated care and prevent admission.Person specification
Essential: Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register; degree with CPD in nutrition-related subjects; NMC Teaching/Assessing qualification; evidence of continuing professional development; ability to manage complex caseload; excellent written and communication skills; ability to work across Trust locations and with flexible shifts. Desirable: teaching expertise; experience with feeding tube insertions (gastrostomy, nasogastric); PICC line insertion; prescriber status; experience in nursing leadership; experience with nursing clinical audits.Qualifications
