About UsCoventry nuclear medicine is in the process of replacing 2 of its 3 gamma cameras with state-of-the-art cameras with CT, and its PET scanner with a digital system—the first in the Midlands—and will be a reference site for the manufacturer. We run an onsite Radiopharmacy with a gallium generator in one of eight UK centres for Gallium-68 PET scans.

We are involved in multiple research trials, including molecular radiotherapy trials with the latest therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. We are participating in a local trial, being the first and only centre in the UK to have a mobile PET CT scanner for theatre use. We administer patients undergoing head and neck and prostate surgeries with radiotracers that localise in the tumour, with immediate in-theatre scanning to assess margins. This work has significant potential impact for patients and the NHS.

We are exploring innovative approaches such as using drones to transport radioactive material between departments to improve access to gallium-68 across the country.
