Salary: £20.71/hr (early shift) to £22.43/hr (late shift)
OTE: Up to £50,000 (including overtime and shift premiums)

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and forward-thinking engineering company in Rochdale, known for excellence in machinery design and manufacture.

Due to continued expansion, they are seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to join their team on a permanent basis in 2026.

Mechanical Fitter Working Hours & Shifts (Monday–Friday, rotating)

• Shift A:
  Mon–Thu 06:00–15:45, Fri 10:00–15:00 (20% premium)
• Shift B (Option 1):
  Mon–Thu 15:30–01:15 (30% premium)
• Shift B (Option 2):
  Mon–Thu 15:30–00:00, Fri 10:00–15:00 (30% premium)

Minimum of 6 hours overtime per week is required to meet business needs.

Mechanical Fitter Key Responsibilities

• Assemble complex machinery to specification and within defined build times
• Modify and fabricate components as required
• Service and repair mechanical systems and heavy plant equipment
• Provide occasional on-site support at customer locations
• Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
• Mentor junior staff and apprentices
• Complete documentation including Test Certificates and Packing Sheets

Mechanical Fitter Requirements

• Proven experience in mechanical fitting
• Ability to read and work from technical drawings
• Skilled in drilling, tapping, and basic machining
• Strong focus on quality, safety, and attention to detail
• Excellent reliability and timekeeping
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong Health & Safety awareness

Mechanical Fitter Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
• Time-served Mechanical Fitter preferred
• HNC qualification advantageous

• Base salary: £40,384 per annum
• Overtime rates:
• Weekdays: 1.33x
• Over 10 hours/week: 1.5x
• Saturday: 1.5x
• Sunday: 2x
