Mechanical Fitter

MECHANICAL FITTER – OLDHAM£17.50 per hour | Monday – Friday | 07:30 – 15:30 THE ROLE

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a fast-paced heavy engineering environment in Oldham.

You’ll play a key role in keeping critical machinery running efficiently by installing, maintaining, and repairing heavy mechanical equipment. Your work will directly support uptime, safety, and reliability across the site.

• Build, install, align, and commission mechanical components to engineering standards
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance to keep operations running smoothly
• Diagnose mechanical faults and deliver fast, effective repairs
• Strip down and rebuild pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, and hydraulic systems
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
• Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, dial indicators, calipers)
• Complete clear and accurate maintenance records and reports
• Work closely with engineers, electricians, and maintenance teams
• Respond to breakdowns, shutdowns, and urgent repair situations

• Work safely and responsibly at all times
• Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately
• Use correct lifting methods and equipment
• Wear and maintain all required PPE
• Follow all company Health & Safety procedures without exception

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment
• Recognised trade qualification (Mechanical Fitting / Fitting & Turning or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics
• Confident reading engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Experience with heavy plant and rotating equipment
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
• A proactive, hands-on approach with attention to detail
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
