My client are an MEP Contractor who are based in Southeast London and have a company turnover of around £3mil.
They specialise in Residential New Builds and Commercial Refurbishment Projects in the region of £50k - £17mil across London and The Home Counties.
Due to growth they are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join the team.
THE ROLE – MECHANICAL ESTIMATOR
Monday – Friday / 8am-5pm.
You will be office based in Southeast London, producing tenders for Mechanical projects up to a value of £17mil.
Duties:
Tendering and Cost Estimation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical works
- Assess drawings, specifications, and site surveys to determine material, labour, and equipment needs.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BoQ) or schedules of rates.
- Produce cost plans, budgets, and value-engineered options.
Bid Management
- Review invitations to tender (ITTs), RFQs, and PQQs to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and submit competitive tender proposals.
- Liaise with supply chain partners for quotations and rates.
- Identify commercial risks and mitigation measures within bids.
Technical and Commercial Analysis
- Carry out site inspections and feasibility studies.
- Evaluate subcontractor bids and supplier quotations for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all costs reflect current market conditions, building codes, and best practices.
- Support cost modelling for reactive and planned maintenance projects.
Collaboration and Liaison
- Work closely with project managers, contracts managers, surveyors, and procurement teams.
- Provide pre- and post-contract support, including clarification of estimates.
- Engage with clients and consultants to explain cost breakdowns.
Risk and Compliance
- Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies.
- Ensure estimates comply with health and safety regulations, sustainability goals, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction materials, building regulations, and industry standards.
Leadership and Mentoring
- Guide junior estimators and assist in their professional development.
- Establish best practices in estimating, cost tracking, and bid submissions.
- Lead estimating efforts for high-value or complex fabric service projects.
