Mechanical Estimator

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a growing Building Services contractor specialising in ductwork, airside installations, and insulation solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical projects, supporting the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions for clients across the construction industry.
This role will suit an individual with strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documents to produce clear and comprehensive cost submissions.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for mechanical works including ductwork systems, fire-rated ductwork, airside installations, fume extract, PVC ductwork, and insulation services.

Analyse tender documentation, drawings, and technical specifications to identify scope, risks, and opportunities.

Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring compliance with project requirements.

Liaise with clients, consultants, and the internal design/operations teams to clarify technical and commercial aspects of tenders.

Prepare bills of quantities, cost plans, and take-offs from drawings.

Support the pre-construction process by attending tender meetings and client presentations when required.

Contribute to value engineering proposals and provide alternative solutions to ensure competitiveness.

Maintain accurate records of tenders submitted and track performance against targets.

Work collaboratively with design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless transition from estimating through to project delivery.
Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the Building Services or related construction sector.

Strong knowledge of mechanical installations, particularly ductwork, airside, ventilation, and insulation systems.

Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schedules.

Competent in using estimating software, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications.

Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.

Highly organised with the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications

HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline (preferred but not essential).

Relevant industry accreditations or memberships (desirable).
