Management Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Management Accountant to join a successful and innovative business based in Stockton-on-Tees. This is a key role within the finance team, offering broad exposure across multiple business areas and the chance to work closely with operational and commercial stakeholders to support strategic decision-making and business performance.
Your new role
As Management Accountant, you will take ownership of the financial reporting and performance analysis for designated business units. Working within a collaborative finance team, you will deliver accurate and insightful management information while partnering with key stakeholders across the organisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet for designated business units.
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, including detailed commentary and variance analysis.
- Production of annual budgets, forecasts and periodic reforecasts.
- Business partnering with budget holders and operational teams to support decision-making and improve financial understanding.
- Analysis of revenue, margins, operating costs and key financial and operational KPIs.
- Maintaining robust balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
- Supporting half-year and year-end reporting requirements, including external audit activities.
- Reviewing pricing proposals, customer contracts and commercial opportunities, identifying financial risks and opportunities.
- Working closely with Purchase Ledger and Credit Control teams to ensure ledger accuracy and timely resolution of queries.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes, controls and reporting.
What you''ll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have recent management accounting experience and a proven ability to deliver high-quality financial reporting within a fast-paced environment.You will also possess:
- Experience managing the full monthly accounting and reporting cycle.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis skills.
- Sound knowledge of balance sheet control and financial reconciliations.
- Understanding of accounting standards, including IFRS.
- Experience supporting year-end and audit processes.
- Commercial awareness with exposure to pricing, margin analysis or contract review.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience of ERP or accounting systems, with Sage 200 experience advantageous.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage non-financial stakeholders.
- A proactive approach with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience driving improvements to finance processes and reporting.
