Overview

Locum Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. This post is for a six-month locum appointment (10 PA). It will be offered with a six-month contract and will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric anaesthetic team at Leeds Children9;s hospital (LGI site) in Leeds. The post may be based at Leeds General Infirmary or St James\''s University Hospital depending on service need and candidate skills and experience. The successful applicant will join an existing team of over 150 Consultants.Applicants should hold accreditation in the FRCA (Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent) and be on the Specialist Register, or be within six months of admission to the Register for trainees if currently in a UK training programme, or have references authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Applicants should have established skills in paediatric anaesthesia with at least 12 months advanced training in this area. Main duties of the job

To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. To develop and/or consolidate expertise in paediatric anaesthesia. To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research within the Trust. To support service plans for the specialty, accounting for changes in clinical practice and new technologies. To participate in and progress Clinical Governance. The Trust, as a teaching hospital, recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds for undergraduate teaching; all Consultant and medical staff are required to contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme. The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, organized on a speciality or clinical area basis. The post-holder will collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds. Requirements of the post

3.1 General Training and QualificationsHold accreditation in FRCA and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of admission for UK trainees, or have references authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.Provide information regarding GMC and/or Royal College status at time of application.3.2 ExperienceHigh level of clinical experience and competence in anaesthesia with appropriate paediatric experience. Desirable: experience in clinical trials.

Clinical Audit

The appointee will contribute to clinical audit, mortality and morbidity meetings, and development/application of clinical guidelines. Time allocated in the job plan for these activities will include attendance at departmental audit meetings, in line with the Trust\''s policy. Continuing medical education will be supported.

Teaching

The Trust recognises links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for undergraduate teaching. The post-holder will participate in undergraduate teaching by speciality area and collaborate with colleagues to deliver undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive and the University of Leeds. The appointee will contribute to postgraduate teaching, including SpRs in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.

Job plan and working arrangements

The job plan is normally reviewed annually with the Clinical Director/Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. The post consists of 10 PAs: 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA). The plan will align with colleagues\'' plans and include a roaster that ensures robust cover.

Standards of Conduct and Behaviour: work to GMC Good Medical Practice. Appraisal is contractual for all consultant staff. Leave, training and CME are governed by Trust policies and ensure continuing professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

Must hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.Eligible for full GMC registration at appointment and UK work eligibility.Minimum 12 months in a recognised paediatric anaesthesia training programme.Demonstrated English language proficiency (IELTS or OET as specified).Experience

Demonstrated paediatric anaesthesia experience and advanced training.Other Requirements
