12-month fixed-term locum consultant post in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Evelina London Children\''s Hospital and the Royal Brompton (RBH) PICU, with a single clinical team across two sites. Open to candidates from paediatric or anaesthetic backgrounds. Proposed start date: September 2025.Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will provide a specialist service to children requiring intensive and high-dependency care at one or both PICU sites, and will participate in consultant-led triage and management of emergency inter-hospital referrals and transfers with the South Thames Retrieval Service (STRS). The post includes significant cover for the STRS integrated with PICU, day-to-day management of the service, and active PICU and retrieval teaching programs for PICU retrieval nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and regional nursing and medical staff. Education is delivered for the national advanced paediatric critical care clinical practice programme. The post may be based at either PICU site and includes on-call commitments; on-call frequency is 1:6, with some additional on-call requirements that may attract additional PAs.About us

The PICU at Guys and St Thomas\'' Foundation Trust is the regional lead PICU serving the South East of England and London. It forms part of a large tertiary children\''s hospital and regional delivery network, with access to tertiary neonatology, cardiology/cardiac surgery, neurology, nephrology, metabolic medicine, general paediatrics, paediatric surgery and clinical genetics. Following merger with the RBH, consultants may work across sites in either intensive care unit, with RBH site case mix largely cardiorespiratory.Details

The successful applicant will be expected to provide significant cover for the South Thames Retrieval Service including educational support and regional service development. The STRS is integrated and staffed from PICU, with day-to-day management of the service a key responsibility of the on-call consultant team, supported by other PICU colleagues. An active PICU and retrieval teaching programme is delivered to PICU retrieval nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and regional nurses and doctors, including education for a national advanced paediatric critical care clinical practice programme.
