Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care

Overview

Locum Consultant Anaesthetist specialising in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Cardiac Critical Care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). The successful applicant will join a team of 13 Consultant Anaesthetists in Cardiac surgical services, providing cover for conventional cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, grown up congenital heart disease (GUCH), heart and lung transplantation with mechanical circulatory support as part of the transplantation programme. The post holder will also provide sessions for interventional cardiology procedures.Responsibilities

Participate in audit, medical education, MDT, Mortality and Morbidity meetings and a dynamic Real Time clinical governance programme.Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a prospective cover rota across cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac critical care.Participate in the Divisional and Departmental audit programme and in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.Be prepared to adapt to local policies and procedures and comply with standing orders and standing financial instructions.Qualifications and Experience

GMC RegistrationInclusion on Specialist Registrar or eligible for inclusion on the Register within 6 months if in trainingFRCA or equivalentEvidence of extended training and experience in the assessment and management of patients undergoing anaesthesia for cardiothoracic surgeryEvidence of extended training and experience in cardiothoracic critical care medicineExperience of peri-operative TOE and anaesthetic and intensive care management of patients undergoing cardiac or lung transplantation; experience with mechanical cardiac support (desirable)TOE exam and readiness to work toward recognised TOE accreditationLegal, Registration and Sponsorship
