Learning Support Assistant

Location: Brent, London
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

About the Role

A welcoming and well-established three-form entry school in Brent is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join its support team from September.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with pupils and wants to build a career within SEN, education or pastoral support. You will play an important role in helping pupils access their learning and develop greater confidence and independence.

Working alongside class teachers and the wider SEN team, you will provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help, either through one-to-one support or small-group interventions. You will get to know the individual needs of the pupils you work with and adapt your approach to help them make progress both academically and socially.

The school is committed to developing its staff and offers training, professional development and genuine opportunities for progression for individuals who demonstrate commitment and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to pupils with SEN and additional learning needs.
  • Deliver small-group support and targeted interventions to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, adapting your approach to suit their individual abilities and learning styles.
  • Help pupils develop their confidence, independence and engagement in learning.
  • Reinforce learning from lessons and provide additional explanations where required.
  • Work closely with class teachers and SEN staff to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils develop appropriate classroom routines.
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional development where required.
  • Monitor pupils'' engagement and progress and share relevant observations with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Support pupils during wider school activities, breaktimes and lunchtimes where required.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, SEN, youth work or similar setting.
  • A genuine interest in SEN and supporting individual pupil development.
  • Confidence providing one-to-one and small-group support.
  • A caring, patient and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN, learning difficulties or behavioural needs is desirable.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant, SEN or education qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
